We have the best neighbours round here. The couple 4 doors up are no exception. Alex is always cooking up meals for everyone and running errands. Jo has made us loads of beautiful crocheted things and donated jewellery, books & exquisite scarves. She even did our bloody tax returns. I never knew how to repay them.

Last year they got married on our lovely little back street. Today I gave them a painting I did of that day. I'm quite pleased with it. And at least I know nobody else will give them the same present.

When I met my now husband Nick Doody, almost 19 ye

When I met my now husband Nick Doody, almost 19 years ago, his defining stand-up routine at the time was about alcohol and our country's insistence on normalising excessive drinking (but hilariously delivered, obviously).

Two decades later, we constantly come across this meme (or people send us pictures of it all over the world) which is one of his lines from that routine (instead of "Alcohol", he started with "Let's have a drink..." which he was pointing out is the answer to anything happening, bad or good, or indeed nothing happening because then it will).

Maybe if we hadn't been drinking so much, we could've monetised this now ubiquitous slogan and we would be squillionaires swimming in liquid gold.

Gonna attempt to put Nick on Insta slightly against his will. Watch out for him and give him a little follow to show him it's not ALL total nonsense. I'll drag him by the ankle into the early 2010s soon.
